Pre-Employment Bricklayer Training

PROGRAM INFORMATION:

Program Duration: 40 weeks (1,600 hours)

Campus Location: Saint John, NB (120 Ashburn Road)

Tuition: $ 8,000

Books: $ 600

Student Fees: $ 80

Pre-requisite: High School Diploma, GED Diploma, or Adult High School Diploma

Tuition is $8,000 with a non-refundable deposit of $250 required upon registration.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The course of study is approximately 20% classroom training, and 80% hands-on practical training, including a two-week work placement with an employer. All content required to challenge the Provincial Block One Examination is covered throughout the program, and the exam is scheduled upon successful completion at the end of your training. Throughout the practical instruction of the program, all students will receive their hands-on skills on actual construction projects.


OUR GOAL:

To provide the training, knowledge and practical experience allowing students a good opportunity for employment in the bricklaying trade.


APPROACH TO TRAINING:

Using the curriculum standard for the Bricklayer occupation, this program will be comprised of both theoretical instruction and practical classroom activities involving both group and individual activities. Problem solving and specification verification functions will be highlighted. Attitudinal objectives will be developed as an on-going process. Testing will include both theory and applied skills evaluation.


OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:

The student is required to attend each session in the mental and physical condition required for prolonged mental exercises. The student will be required to perform additional study and developmental exercises on their own time [homework].

PROJECTS FOR THIS PROGRAM

  • Interpret blueprints, specifications and other contract documents
  • Measure dimensions on a drawing and interpolate according to scale
  • Produce freehand sketches and dimension drawings
  • Select mix materials and determine mix ratios
  • Mix mortar by hand
  • Mix mortar using a mortar mixer
  • Clean and maintain mixing equipment
  • Prepare mortar and grout to specifications
  • Lay and finish brick wall using different bonds
  • Lay and finish brick wall between leads
