Rigging Qualification

Offered To: Locals 1386 and 2262

Program Description: This is a comprehensive 1 week, or 40 hours, program that will enable members to be job ready placing them as an employee of preference. This program offers an extensive portfolio of practical hands-on experience and covers the following objectives;

- Identify appropriate standards for rigging
- Describe the limits of safe operation
- Select proper chain alloy for rigging applications
- Identify chain markings
- Inspect chain according to manufacturer specifications & standard requirements
- Select and inspect proper type sling for rigging task
- Inspect shackles, hooks, eyebolts, sheaves, turnbuckles, wedge sockets, cable clamps and rigging beams
- Tie knots from the selection demonstrated
- Select and attach slings and rigging hardware for rigging tasks
- Use safe work practices when performing rigging operations
- Select and attach rigging hardware
- Balance slings on a hoisting hook
- Identify and assist in safe set-up of standard types of crane
- Use a crane chart to determine safe lifting capacity of a crane
- Direct crane movement for rigging operations with hand and voice signals

Program Pre-Requisites: Members applying for this program must have the following pre-requisites;

Must be on EI, eligible for EI, or have received EI in last 3 years
- If not eligible under EI a member can pay their own tuition, or the program may be funded by the Training Trust Fund
